Cayden's Cake

Cayden took well over a month to decide on what kind of cake he wanted! Every day was a different request! Sometimes it changed during the day a couple times! He just couldn't decide what cake to pick! He asked everyone too! Me, Ethan, Dad, and Maryn but he couldn't decide. On Wednesday he decided that he wanted a snake cake. More specifically a King Cobra cake with the head up, mouth open and neck flaps flared! Talk about very specific! So I set about trying to figure out how to make it work. Thankfully he changed on Friday and said he wanted a rattlesnake but he still wanted the head up off the body and the tail now up like it was rattling! Now there aren't too many pictures of snake cakes that are coiled up with the head up online! Those that are online are from professional bakers who are used to making kind-of crazy cakes! I talked to a friend who is great at making and decorating cakes and she gave me a couple of ideas so I was off!
We had just about everything we needed but the rest Travis could pick up with our groceries on Saturday. The plan was to make rice krispy treats and use them to form the head and tail. I already had made the two ring cakes that were layered to make the coils of the body! Travis got to the store for the rice krispies and low and behold they were completely out!!!! Of all the cereals they were out of it was the one we needed! Generic and everything! Finally he found a box of cocoa krispies that he figured would have to work! I never new cocoa krispy treats were so good!
We got the kids to bed and I was off! Got the frosting made and the majority of the cake frosted then moved to the treats. I made them and then realized I should have made them before the frosting so they could cool better. Warm krispy treats do not stick together very well. It took quite a few tries but we finally got the head and neck made and stuck it in the cake! It didn't last too long because it started to fall apart! We ended up just putting the head on the cake without the neck and had to thin out the tail but it turned out great! I'm not sure I'll do one like that again but it was still fun! I would never have gotten it done or done such a great job without Travis though! He helped shape the head and tail and the tongue! I love that the cake is always a group effort!

SUPER CUTE! Hey, i Know this is last minute, but we're having a little princess valentine's party on Tuesday here at my house at 11:00. If you're interested in coming, just bring 10 valentines to exchange. I think Gracie would LOVE to have Maryn there! (And there will be about 10 two year olds...I know, I'm crazy!) You can come and stay too! Let me know if you want to come!

The cake is fantastic! I'm not sure I would have even tried! I suggest things like square or rectangle. Those are easy to make :-) Yours are more fun though!
