After the fun...

This has been quite hard to write and I'm still not sure how it's all going to come out.

Last Wednesday we headed to the park and had a great time out in the sun and fresh air! When we came home it was lunch time of course and we were getting it made! Cayden had made a great peanut butter and honey sandwich by himself and I was making Mac and cheese for Trav and Maryn. As I was going to strain the noodles and moving the pan from the stove to the sink Cayden came behind me on his way to get the dinosaur sandwich cutter. I moved the pan away from his head trying to make sure he didn't get hit with the hot pan and instead the hot pasta water sloshed over the side of the pan and down Cayden's face. From there panic insued pretty much! I called 911 and Travis put cool rags on his face then moved him upstairs into the shower to run cool water over his head and down his face and body. The police, fire dept and paramedics were very quick responding and were here taking over so quickly. Not to mention my great friend Meghan who came over with her girls so she could watch Maryn and the babies. Because there isn't a hospital here in town Cayden was taken by helicopter to the Medical Center north in Phoenix. Travis and I quickly followed in our car to find out what the damage was. Thankfully Cayden had only suffered 2nd degree superficial burns to his face, neck, chest and upper arms. They kept him in the hospital Wednesday night, Thursday night and thankfully he was able to come home on Friday!
Just a note-the story was on every news station in AZ and unfortunately I heard just the other day that another toddler in the area was burned by hot soup on her face and chest. She has been in our prayers as well.

I can not thank everyone personally for all the support, love and prayers we have received during this stressful time. So many people everywhere were praying for our sweet Cayden and those prayers were heard. Cayden came home wearing a mask made out of Mepilex which helps healing and is doing wonderfully. We've had to take the mask off because it wasn't sticking anymore which they said means the skin is mostly healed. His face looks wonderful compared to when he first went in to the hospital and we are soo grateful that there will be minimal to no scarring. Cayden has impressed me soo much with his bravery and toughness through this whole ordeal! He is one tough kiddo and we love him so much! Cayden didn't want us to take too many pictures while he had his mask on but we had to document it somehow!

This picture is from Thursday when he was VERY swollen and didn't look like himself at all. I spent a good time during the day there and he slept the entire time which was great for him.

Before I left on Thursday he had woken up and was feeling considerably better so he challenged Dad to a quick game of Mario Cart on the hospital's Wii. It was the first time Cayden had played it so he didn't do very well but it was good to see him excited to do something!

Last night after we took off the majority of the mask we had to celebrate with popsicles that our friends the Barkers brought over for Cayden. They were yummy and Cayden loved them! :)

This morning the piece of Mepilex on his chin and the side of his face had fallen off in his sleep so now he doesn't have anything on his face other than a bunch of ointment keeping it moist! I'm amazed at how well he is healing and again at all the prayers from so many people. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for all your support, love and prayers for my son!
