Ok so it's been a little crazy this week! Ethan went in for his Kindergarten check-up so we could get him up to date on immunizations and stuff. He's now 4ft 1in tall and weighs 54lbs! Such a big kiddo. He was way off the charts on height and in the 95%tile in weight! Poor kid, he had to get 4 shots though. He made it through the first 2 without much reaction. When they switched arms to do the third and fourth the nurse made a mistake and said "this one might burn a little more than the other two!" That's not something you tell a 5 year old! Ethan immediately freaked out and I had to hold him so he would get the third shot. After that one he had had enough! He jumped off the table and hid in the back corner, where of course, pregnant mommy couldn't reach him. The nurses weren't very helpful in getting him held down, probably because they were little women and Ethan's such a big boy! The doctor ended up coming in and holding Ethan so they could give him the last shot, the MMR. Now anyone who has had one of those knows they burn!!! He was so unhappy with us after that but the Doctor made up for it by letting him choose a toy out of the box for each shot.
After all of that we made it home and had no problems for about a day! Tuesday afternoon Ethan started complaining that his shoulder itched. I didn't think much of it until I took a look at his shoulder. It was red and swollen. So I called the Dr's office and they thought it might just be a reaction to the shots so he needed some benedryl and just wait it out. It didn't go away by morning so we headed in to the Dr's again! Such fun! This time it turned out to be an infection caused by the shots. I've never heard of it and the Dr said it was pretty rare but can happen. So, Ethan's now on antibiotics for the infection and it's pretty much gone away! Thank goodness!
Cayden was a sport during all this but really hated seeing Ethan cry and scream for the shots. Cayden was really reluctant to return to the Dr's office on Wednesday too but he survived, especially when we told him, it wasn't for him!
I really hope we do not make it to the Dr's office for anything serious in a quite a while!!!
